THE

site

The site encompasses just over 473 acres of land at the former Second World World airfield at Llandow and low grade agricultural land to the north of the current employment areas. The boundaries are the re-opened Vale of Glamorgan railway line to the west, the B4270 to the east and Sutton Road to the north. In addition to the two employment areas, the site is currently used for a variety of un-coordinated purposes including a caravan park, race circuit, go-carting and a modelling aircraft club.

Since being broken up and sold by the Ministry of Defence in 1961, the site has suffered from piecemeal development and the lack of a co-ordinated and structured development scheme. The site was accepted as 'brownfield' during the Inspector at the enquiry for the current Unitary Development Plan (UDP). The runway surface, hard stands for aircraft and some hangers remain in place, and the site is plagued by fly-tipping, leaving the site as an unattractive area within the rural Vale.
