Llandow Newydd will be developed around sound sustainable transport principles, both within the site and in surrounding areas.
A barrier to cohesive development of the airfield and the expansion of employment opportunities, including the bringing forward of the existing allocation, has been the lack of investment in transport infrastructure within and surrounding the site. Indeed much of the old runway remains in place. Site infrastructure and local centre planning will encourage pedestrian movements and cycle use, and public transport improvements will be promoted with suitable provision across the whole development.
The impact of traffic on neighbouring villages will be taken into account. For instance, the Llysworney by-pass, including the provision of a new roundabout at Pentre Meyrick and the A48 and associated highway improvements along the B4268, are all identified Council highway improvement schemes, which can be traced back many years. It is envisaged that the allocation of Llandow Newydd within the LDP will allow funding to be made available for such schemes.
The Llysworney by-pass itself is subject to policy TRAN2 in the Adopted Unitary Development Plan and provision of funding for the scheme early in the LDP period will also improve the western access to St Athan and Cardiff International Airport.
The site is adjacent to the recently opened Vale of Glamorgan passenger railway and professional advice confirms that it is possible to build a new halt to serve Llandow Newydd and that the current timetable would allow existing train services to call at the station.
